escalator tube
About this project:
The color-coded infrastructure of this building is featured as a design element. Tubular steel supports, blue duct work, red elevators and a series of exterior mounted escalators are both visually compelling and instructive at the same time. The sloping plaza which terminates at the main entrance facade is in constant use by visitors and for performances. Located on the fifth and top floor of the Pompidou Center the architects redesigned a space to be used as a restaurant. Inspired by the exposed grid of the building and duct work he exaggerates this infrastructure to create an abstract interior that is colorful, interesting and functional. The use of a "skin" made of aluminum that appears to have been stretched into various shapes to produce grottos serve as intimate spaces for dining and conversation. Seating around the edges of the space provide spectacular views of the Paris skyline.
