About this project:
Once considered a temporary structure built for the Universal Exposition of 1900 this Beaux-Arts architecture includes ornate decoration, stone facades, vaulted glass ceiling and iron and steel framing. Problems arose with a changing water table and expansion contraction that resulted in leaks and eventual corrosion. The building was extensively remodeled. The photographs show the space with a monumental artwork by Anish Kapoor. The artwork shows the scale of this building.
