Governor Bennett House, 69 Barre Street
Charleston, SC, USA
Artist: Lorna Simpson
exterior view of Gov. Bennett House with servants' outbuilding in foreground
About this project:
Set in an outbuilding formerly used by servants, this artwork reflects the experience of Africans in Charleston and their link to the contemporary African-American experience. Along with vocalist/composer Alva Rogers, the artist presents a story in five chapters, structured according to the five sections of an audio work and the five rooms of the building itself.
