About this project:
This simple rectangular structure contains under a single green roof multiple venues from a 3D theater and lecture hall to a 4-story rainforest. Restaurants and exhibition space are located throughout this space. The project took 10 years and $500 million in the making and is a masterpiece of sustainablity. It is one of the ten largest natural history museums in the world. Its goals is to explore, explain and protect. The green roof includes 1.7 million native plants on a 2.5 acres space. Science labs, administrative offices, a library and scientific archive are under housed in this facility as well. This building is the largest Platinum-rated LEED certified building in the world. The commitment to sustainability extends to all facets of the facility from the radiant sub-floor heating inside to the solar collectors on top of the building that generate electricity.
